When King gets unexpectedly arrested for fraud, he has 30 days before being send to San Quentin Prison. He is so sure that he won’t survive in prison that he ask Darnell Lewis to help him get tough and get by unarmed during his time, thinking that the man washing his car did prison once in his life. The problem that King doesn’t know? Darnell is an honest man who tries to run his small business of car washing and has never being arrested. But Darnell needs the money King is offering him, so he makes him believe that he did indeed went to prison and will teach him how to get hard. The next 30 days will be compose of intense hard training, a real nightmare for King, but a real good time for us!
I was expecting a comedy with more of an idiotic kind of jokes, a little like Dumb and Dumber, but I was pleasantly surprise by the quality of the gags. The script is certainly not written to win any awards, but it doesn’t matter at all and many critics should keep that in mind when reviewing a comedy. When you go see a movie of this kind, the only thing that you want to do is laugh and think of nothing else. If this is what happens as you watch, than the director knew what he was doing, just like it was the case for Get Hard. The pace of the movie is fast, the storyline is quickly explained to make sure most of the time will be occupied by jokes and laughter. But be warned, the language is crude, so don’t think it’s the kind of comedy that would be a good idea to bring your children.
The chemistry between Will Ferrell and Kevin Hard is definitely present, but between the two of them, Kevin Hart steals the show! First his lines are funnier for a good part, since Ferrell plays a business man, but it’s his mimics and various expressions that will set you laughing for sure. Of course it’s not the best acting of the century, but the goal of the movie is to make us laugh, and the job was well accomplished!
Those types of comedy rarely have good critics, but if you want a good laugh, don’t let those bad comments stop you, from what I heard of the crowd in the theater, most of you will be laughing often!
Get Hard is a movie I recommend to anyone who wants to turn the switch off and have a good laugh.
